Here is the reply:
"Dear Les,
Thank you for your patience, our Head of Technical has got back to us.
He has let me know that the information I provided you with in my previous email refers instead to the older, 12 hour hydration claim and cannot be used to justify the latest 24 hour claim. As you are questioning the newer, 24 hour hydration claim our Head of technical would like to let you know the following:
· Hydration study was carried out on 30 volunteers (mean age 36.7)
· The Beauty Sleep Concentrate also underwent also clinical studies to support claims about wrinkles, skin elasticity and radiance (30 volunteers, mean age 52.5)
I have attached a statement on claim substantiation. Regarding providing references for where the study was published, clinical trials are not to be regarded as scientific articles – normally they are not carried out with the aim of publishing in scientific journals. There is a misguided assumption that a rigorously designed controlled study should be published in a reputable peer reviewed journal and we hope that the attached statement will help understand what a rigorous clinical trial is.
I hope this helps, and if you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best wishes,
Nicola Bradshaw

Further reply received 7.1.2015:
"This wasn’t a medical study and as far as I’m aware it’s not regular practice within the Beauty Industry to share details which are proprietary."
I don't see why whether or not is was a medical study makes any difference to the need for publication. Surely all science should be published?
