Effect of a total ban of trans fats on small and medium sized enterprises.
There is overwhelming evidence that the consumption of trans-fats causes huge increases in the risk of coronary heart disease. Though the food and drink industry recognise the benefit of and support a legal limit on industrial trans-fat (of about 2 % of fat) in food products there is resistance to an outright ban. One reason FoodDrinkEurope is against an outright ban, (see link below) is that it would put medium enterprises at a competitive disadvantage.

In light of the huge health benefits to be derived from a reduction in trans-fats I ask FoodDrinkEurope what is the published evidence that a total ban in trans-fats would put small and medium enterprises at a competitive disadvantage?
