I sent the following email to Theresa May:
Dear Mrs May
I noted in several newspapers and on this morning's Today programme, that you plan to reduce net migration to under 100,000 per year via a series of new laws. Could you answer the following questions regarding these measures, that were trailed in your manifesto?
Could you send me any evidence you have that supports the idea that these laws will in fact reduce immigration to that figure?
I'd also like you to send me evidence that the new criminal offence of illegal working will catch additional illegal immigrants and act as a deterrent.
You propose that illegal immigrants’ wages will be seized, which will deter others from entering the UK. Could you send me the evidence that demonstrates that this will be an effective deterrent?
The proposed Bill will require banks to check the immigration status of account holders. Do you have evidence that confirms that banks can and will carry this out?
[How will advertisement law be enforced and monitored for evidence of impact?].
